The Ole Miss Spirit

A few weekends ago Ole Miss hosted Texas for the very first time in Oxford.  The hype leading up to this game was incredible and I had made up my mind that I was going to attend!  The experience was definitely worth it!  Oxford was full of both Ole Miss and Texas fans and both sides were equally excited about the whole thing.  There were rumors going around starting over a year ago about different celebrities that would be in attendance, the prices of houses being rented, and amount of people in the grove.  Most rumors ended up being true!  Matthew McConaughey was spotted and videoed.  Houses were topping out at $14000 for the weekend and the Grove was packed with tents and people.  It was so nice to host the Texas fans and I can say that Ole Miss fans really enjoyed them.

We decided to host our normal tailgate for the special game and we had a large turnout.  It was good to be around everybody and there was a special energy going around in the Grove.  The first part of the game day atmosphere in the stadium was awesome.  I got chills as the team ran onto the field.  My Mom has always called this “the Ole Miss spirit” and true Ole Miss fans know exactly what I am talking about.  It’s the feeling you get of pride and love every time you step into the Grove or go to an Ole Miss sporting event or hear anything about YOUR University, The University of Mississippi.  Ole Miss has something special and you’re crazy or jealous if you try to deny it.  The stadium was full before the game began and the crowd was loud.  Betty White did the “Are you ready?” and Miss America sang the national anthem.  Texas’ mascot, Bevo even made an appearance on the field.  Ole Miss did not come out with a win in the end on the football field but the day as a whole definitely was one of the best.  Ole Miss played with heart and soul and never gave up.  I was proud of my team and proud to be an Ole Miss fan.

Way down south in Mississippi, There’s a spot that ever calls, Where amongst the hills enfolded, Stand old Alma Mater’s Halls.
Where the trees lift high their branches, To the whispering Southern breeze, There Ole Miss is calling, calling, To our hearts fond memories.

Happy Birthday Daddy

Happy Birthday to my sweet Daddy!  Today we will celebrate his birthday by Groving and watching the Ole Miss Rebels play Texas!  I am one lucky girl to have my daddy.  He is one of the most wonderful and caring men on this Earth.  I am thankful for each day I have with him because I came all to close to losing him.

Happy Birthday Dad!  Hopefully the Rebels will give you the best present ever of a BIG win!

So Blessed

Last weekend some of our family and friends from Oxford gave Jason and me a shower for Lane Henry. Let me tell you, Lane Henry is one very blessed little boy. He is so loved already. The shower was so wonderful and all the decorations were so CUTE! Jason and I received lots of things that we were really needing to prepare for Lane Henry’s arrival. The shower was fun and it was good to be around so many people I don’t get to see a lot. Thank you ladies for a wonderful shower! I cannot wait till Lane Henry gets to meet all of you!

Hostesses: Nina, Sandra, Me, Kay, Susan, Donna, Greer

I have been blessed
With so much more than I deserve
To be here with the ones that love me
To love them so much it hurts

Wishes For Lane Henry

A few weekends ago my wonderful friends hosted a fabulous shower for Lane Henry.  Every detail was so personal and perfect.  Each one of them put so much time and effort into the shower and I felt so special and Lane Henry is so loved.  I am so blessed with wonderful friends and I am so thankful for them.  Even though I have experienced some of the hardest times over the last year I know for a fact that God placed these special ladies in my life to help me.  They provided me with  smiles and laughs and compassion when I needed it the most.  The understanding and love that they have given me can never be described with words.  At the shower they were able to write wishes for Lane Henry, well one of my wishes for Lane Henry is for him to always know how special these ladies are and how much they love him.  As Martha’s mom put it at the shower “This little boy has been loved for a long time.”
Thank you girls, you will never know how special and wonderful each of you are to me!
And now for pictures:

The Food:

“You had faith, when I had none
You prayed God would bring me a brand new song
When I didn’t think I could find the strength to sing
And all the while I’m hoping that I’ll
Do the kind of praying for you that you’ve done for me
And that’s the way it ought to be”
